FASHION STYLE BETWEEN 60s VS 90s

What is popular culture? Popular Culture is the fullness of ideas, perspectives, attitudes, and image that are within the mainstream of a given culture, especially Western culture of the early to mid-20th century and the emerging global mainstream of the late 20th and early 21st century. It’s a power tool to influence by mass media, this collection of ideas infiltrate the everyday lives of the society.

Popular culture are also is the way to let us see the whole world because popular culture are the long standing store of cultural products such as theater, music, dance, art, fashion, television, book and mass media, they have many different type of popular culture, but in my opinion, I would like to introduce more about  fashion, its because fashion was plays an important role in our daily life and in culture and religion, because fashion can make you more creative and colorful in your daily life, according to Anna Wintour, she said: “I always think what I often see is the people afraid by the fashion, because it make them feel insecure and they just put it down.”

Fashion is really important for everyone in the world, u will feel confidence when you wear the clothes it is suit for you and it also is show respect to others. In the old generation, the also have their own fashion style, in comparing the year of Sixties and Nineties.

In my first thought was how was the different of society todays and how much the popular culture has change. But the strange is, the more that I differentiate between year if sixties and nineties, the more similarities that I got it, because both of them were about creativity, free thinker and more expression. In 1960s, the society was changing by every minute and fashion also changes over the time. Why do the fashions change? Answer as easy as simple, because the fact of people changes, the new replace old. All of us are also influence by the fashion industry advertising, but in my opinion, I will wear what I like and what I feel comfortable when I hang out with friends. According to Anna Wintour, she said: “Create your own style… Let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.”

Jackie Kennedy 

In the early sixties, Jackie Kennedy was influence fashion with her stylish, makers of A-line dresses, black sweater, white pants, Pillbox Hats and making American style simple and more.

Late 60's

Furthermore, the late sixties, mod fashion were brash, daring and creative. Sixties fashion was owned by London, England. The mod fashion revolution was about the young swarm and it all happened in street than the runway, and the mod look all learned toward ultra-short miniskirt, pants and also sleeveless clothes. Popular style in the late 60s, were miniskirts, short pants, vintage dress, turtle necks, pencil skirts, blouses in pastel colors patent, leather Ago-go boots, jumper and tights were used by hippie culture.

                            

In the year of 1990s, Grunge look and Retro fashion are the fashionable in the generation. The Grunge fashion was an eclectic trend from 1970s ‘hippie’ and 1980 ‘punk’ style. Grunge style always wore oversized, and baggy clothes, and their hair was kept messy and un-style. For the typical grunge style normally for young women may have long straight hair, they also were wore skirt with boots.

                         

For men’s the also will have a long straight hair and flowing, they may wore baggy pants or flannelette skirts. In my opinion, the grunge style is a very big strange for men to wear it, because imaging a men wear skirt? How was your feelings and your personal insight? But all of this are follow the fashion in the generation, they are influence from USA Nirvana, Nirvana’s had a massive influence to the way people dress up the grunge look and help the style come into the fashion let all the people know the grunge style very well, Kurt Cobain influence the masses of youth in the 90s to use the grunge style. Next is the Retro fashion, this fashion are drew from the past to create a new look, knitted cardigan, leather jacket and polyester dresses.

                                 

Furthermore, in my own culture now, they have a lot of people wear jeans, sandal, sport shoes and t-shirt , but that is only some of them, because the other people will follow back the 60s and 90s style, because in the 60s and 90s generation they have a lot of fashion style influence the youth in nowadays and they will feel that is more special if compare with style on todays.  

In a nutshell, popular culture was plays an important role in our daily life. And fashion also are the important thing that we cannot lost it, because if fashion disappear in our life that’s means in our life just black and white, but not the colorful life! The 60s and 90s also important to us, because at nowadays a lot of people had influence from their style, like tan tan skirt and big glasses are the fashionable style in our daily life, and popular culture was influence the people all the people every day.
